THE NEW YORK SKA-JAZZ ENSEMBLE - Step Forward [2008]

"Step forward" ha sido grabado en Brooklyn-New York en los estudios HardLuck Studios en 2008, contando con dos de los mejores bajistas de ska-jazz de todos los tiempos (Val Douglas legendario bajista de Skatalites y Kevin Batchelor actual bajista de Skatalites). Pero el verdadero secreto de este gran álbum es que la actual formación de NYSJE esta repleta de grandes instrumentistas de jazz y reggae y que su interpretación es simplemente grandiosa (Fred Reiter-saxofones y flauta, Alberto Tarin-guitarras, Yao Dinizulu-bateria y percusión, Earl Appleton-órganos y pianos y Mark Paquin-trombón).

Tanto las versiones de clásicos del jazz en clave de reggae como los temas originales están llenos de fuerza e imaginación y sus ritmos trepidantes , dulces o suaves vienen cargados siempre de ese matiz neoyorquino que les ha hecho ser considerados una de las bandas de ska-jazz mas importantes del mundo. Músicos que llevan a sus espaldas miles de conciertos y que han conseguido ser un bloque compacto en el estudio sin necesidad de ayudas digitales.

Sin duda alguna The New York Ska-Jazz Ensemble ha dado un paso adelante con "Step forward", y se podría considerar uno de sus mejores discos de toda su carrera. Con un sonido poderoso, una interpretación y composición asombrosa y una muy cuidada producción (con diseño de Charlye Brown incluido).

“Step forward” was recorded in Brooklyn-New York at the Hard Luck Studios in 2008 with the collaboration of two of the best ska-jazz bass players of all times: Val Douglas legendary bass player of The Skatalites and Kevin Batchelor current bassist of the The Skatalites). 

But the true secret of this great album is that the line-up of NYSJE is packed with great instrumentalists of jazz and reggae and that the performance is simply magnificent: Fred Reiter (saxophones and flute), Alberto Tarin (guitars), Yao Dinizulu (drums and percussion), Earl Appleton (organ and piano) y Mark Paquin (trombone). Both, the covers of jazz classics in the key of reggae and the own penned themes are filled with strength and imagination. 

The intense delivery sometimes sweet and sometimes frenetic is always coloured with that genuine New York light that has made them one of the most relevant ska-jazz bands of the world. Without a doubt this album is truly a “Step Forward” in the bands career and stands on its own as one of the best among the ones of their discography. It has a powerful sound, an amazing delivery and great cared production (design by Charlye Brown included).
