SOWETO - South West Town [2011]

No han nacido en Kingston y no estudiaron en la Alpha Boys School. Nunca han pisado los Federal Studios o actuado en el Ward Theatre pero por sus venas fluye sangre cargada de ackee & saltfish y por sus oidos los sonidos jamaicanos de los años 60. El largamente esperado segundo álbum de SOWETO salio a la calle el pasado 28 de abril de 2011 (proximamente también en vinilo).

"South West Town" es un disco que prueba de nuevo la verdadera pasión que SOWETO siente por el ska jamaicano. La devoción que profesan por el género puede sentirse en todos y cada uno de los detalles de un sonido que te transporta al mas puro, tradicional y jazzero de los estilos clásicos. "South West Town" cuenta con el sonido original pero con composiciones propias que bien  podrían haberse escrito en un yard del Trenchtown de la primera mitad de los años sesenta. Solo una honorable excepción a la originalidad, la aparición estelar de una de las estrellas jamaicanas vivas más brillantes: Derrick Morgan. La banda barcelonesa nos descubre 12 nuevos temas que consiguen hacerte vibrar, bailar y soñar desde la primera nota.

They were not born in Kingston and did not study at Alpha Boys School. They have never stepped into Federal Studios or performed in the Ward Theatre, but through their veins runs blood charged with ackee & saltfish and the sounds of 60’s Jamaica flow into their ears. The long awaited second album of SOWETO was released last 28th April Brixton Records (soon also in vinyl).

“South West Town” is a record that proves again the true passion SOWETO feels for Jamaican ska. The devotion can be sensed in all details that create a sound that brings you to the purist, traditional and jazz style of the classics. “South West Town” has the original sound but with own penned tracks that could have been composed in a Trenchtown yard in the early 60’s. Just one honourable exception, the guest appearance of Derrick Morgan one of the brightest living stars of Jamaican music. The Barcelonan band delivers 12 new tracks that will make you dance, vibrate and dream from the first note.
