''Sulla Rotta Dei Venti'' (En la ruta de los vientos) es el flamante nuevo álbum de
los maestros del ska-jazz italiano North East Ska*Jazz Orchestra (NESJO).
Una colección de once temas originales de autoría propia, escritos y compuestos
entre 2020 y 2023, y que enmarca un nuevo capítulo en los diez años de carrera
de la banda.
NESJO explora con valentía otros mundos a través de la música, que, como
sabemos, es siempre también una búsqueda interior. Este disco es, al mismo tiempo, un esfuerzo por situar su propia música en el centro del tiempo y el
espacio en que viven, aun a costa de ir más allá de los límites estilísticos ligados
al género musical elegido por la banda, el ska-jazz. Aunque estos nuevos 11 cortes
se construyen en torno a ritmos de innegable origen jamaicano, las melodías se
”contaminan” de músicas de otras tradiciones y a veces también presentan
elementos pop. De alguna manera, en este nuevo álbum, NESJO ha optado por
dejar que la big-band de jazz salga del foso de la orquesta y se mezcle con el sonido
popular de la calle.
A través de los temas del disco, NESJO crea conjuntos mixtos con el uso de
instrumentos como cuerdas, acordeón, flauta, clarinete, trompa, tuba... junto con
la marca habitual de la banda de saxos, trompetas y trombones. Otra novedad de
este trabajo es que los temas no instrumentales están cantados en italiano por los
tres cantantes Freddy Frenzy, Michela Grena y Rosa Mussin.
Las palabras iniciales del primer tema del álbum nos dejan entrever el
sentimiento de reivindicación, fraternidad y esperanza que encierra este conjunto
de canciones: "¿Dónde está la empatía por los que están en dificultades / en las
calles de Trieste que gritan con vitalidad / indiferencia corazones de piedra /
densa agonía negra balcánica"
"Sulla Rotta Dei Venti'' (On the Route of the Winds) is the brand-new album of
Italian ska-jazz maestros North East Ska*Jazz Orchestra (NESJO). A
collection of eleven own-penned original tracks, written and composed between
2020 and 2023, that frames a new chapter in the ten-year career of the band.
In this record, NESJO bravely explores other worlds through music, which, as we
know, is always also an inner quest. It is at the same time an effort to place their
own music at the centre of the time and space in which they live, even at the cost
of going beyond the stylistic limits linked to the band's chosen musical genre.
Although, these new 11 cuts are built around rhythms that are undeniably of
Jamaican origin, melodies are tainted with music from other traditions and
sometimes also feature pop elements. Somehow, in this new album, NESJO has
chosen to let the jazz big-band out of the orchestra pit and to mix with the popular
sound of the street.
Through the tracks of the record, NESJO creates mixed ensembles with the use
of instruments such as strings, accordion, flute, clarinet, horn, tuba… together
with the band's regular branding of sax, trumpets and trombones. Another
novelty of this work is that the non-instrumental tracks are sung in Italian by the
three singers Freddy Frenzy, Michela Grena and Rosa Mussin.
The opening words of the first track of the album give us a glimpse of the feeling
of vindication, brotherhood and hope contained in this set of songs:"Where is the
empathy for those in difficulty / in the streets of Trieste that shout with vitality /
indifference hearts of stone / dense black Balkan agony"
